Stained glass cost calculator
Enter the size of the panel or the opening, choose rectangular or arch-topped, and pick a complexity to see the area in square feet and the price range that published per-square-foot figures give.
How to use this calculator
Stained glass is usually priced by the square foot, with the rate set by how complex the design is. The calculator works out the glass area: width × height for a rectangle; for an arch-topped window, a rectangle up to the spring line plus a half circle (width × (height − width ÷ 2) + π × (width ÷ 2)² ÷ 2); for a round window, π × radius². It divides square inches by 144 to get square feet, or converts centimeters to inches first.
The complexity tiers come from one professional's published quoting example on Thumbtack: about $90–$150 per square foot for low-complexity work, $150–$250 for mid-tier, and $250 and up for high complexity or special glass and techniques. For the top tier the calculator uses $600 as the upper figure, the top of HomeAdvisor's 2026 range of $250–$600 per square foot for custom stained glass, which is also shown on its own row for comparison.
Complexity is mostly the number of pieces and how hard they are to cut: a geometric design with large panes is quick; a landscape with hundreds of small pieces, tight curves, kiln-fired painting, bevels or hand-blown antique glass takes far longer. Installation, a protective outer glazing sheet, an insulated unit, a frame and delivery are priced separately, so the totals here are a planning range for the panel itself.

Questions about this calculator
How much does a 2 × 3 foot stained glass panel cost?
A 24 × 36 inch panel is 6 square feet. At the published tiers that is about $540–$900 for simple work, $900–$1,500 for mid-tier and $1,500 or more for complex work, before installation.
Why does stained glass cost so much per square foot?
Every piece is cut, ground, wrapped or leaded and soldered by hand, and the glass itself can be expensive. Complex designs with many small pieces take many more hours per square foot.
